New York, NY, April 20, 2017 – Digital Remedy and Hofstra University hosted their fifth annual Venture Challenge Series – an entrepreneurial competition that challenges students to build successful business plans while pursuing their degrees.
The final round concluded on Tuesday, with the top prize going to CountryBox, a “care package” program designed for expats who are currently living abroad. The winning group of undergraduate students, Henry Crayton, Rory Murphy, and Lerthon Theuma were awarded $20,000 after presenting their business plans to a panel of entrepreneurs and esteemed university staff including Digital Remedy CEO and Hofstra alum, Mike Seiman, as well as vice dean of Hofstra’s Frank G. Zarb School of Business, Janet Lenaghan.
The competition consisted of three rounds, beginning with a daylong “boot camp” back in March that the original 86 applicants were all invited to. Semi-finals rounded out the top 10 competitors who then presented their pitches, executive summaries, and commercialization plans Tuesday evening in the final stage of the contest held at Hofstra’s Lawrence Herbert School of Communication.
Some other notable entries were LegalSoft Inc. – the second place winners who received $12,500 after Louis DeVito, Jacob Hochendoner and Adam Hussain presented their cloud-based software that specifically serves elder law attorneys. As well as third place winner, Farhanna Zainhul, who won $7,500 for her proposal of Bling Box, a box of different jewelry items that would be delivered to monthly subscribers.
Digital Remedy continues to proudly sponsor this annual event in the hopes of encouraging more student entrepreneurs and providing them with valuable mentorship to help make their businesses succeed.
